  • Decentralized Staking Pools: Increase the minimum staking requirement, encouraging smaller validators to pool their resources. This would decrease the overall number of active validators and simplify signature verification.
  • Rotating Participation: Divide validators into “committees” that take turns validating blocks. This reduces the workload per validator while maintaining a high degree of decentralization.
  • Hybrid Approach: Combine elements of both methods, leveraging staking pools for efficiency and rotating committees for enhanced security.

While the potential benefits of signature reduction are undeniable, some express concerns. Critics argue that reducing validator participation could compromise decentralization and introduce unforeseen security vulnerabilities. The proposal also necessitates significant changes to the Ethereum protocol, requiring careful consideration and extensive testing before implementation.
